The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public research university located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States. It is the second-oldest of the ten campuses of the University of California system. On May 23, 1919, the Southern Californians" efforts were rewarded when Governor William D. Stephens signed Assembly Bill 626 into law, which merged the Los Angeles Normal School with the University of California as the Southern Branch of the University of California.UCLA has historically received more applications than any other university in the nation, drawing students from all 50 states and scores of foreign nations (more than 125 countries), creating a truly diverse student body. UCLA students are known for their optimism and sense of possibility. At this forward-thinking university, their opportunities are not limited by tradition or by typical boundaries between fields of study. They are free to set their sights high and then reach them.

System: The university is organized into five undergraduate colleges, seven professional schools, and four professional health science schools. The undergraduate colleges are the College of Letters and Science; Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science; School of the Arts and Architecture; School of Theater, Film, and Television; School of Nursing and School of Public Health. Note: The Anderson School of Management at UCLA is world renowned for producing students ideally prepared for taking the reins of international organizations. As a pioneer of stem cell research and nanotechnology, UCLA"s David Geffen School of Medicine and other health science professional schools have produced Nobel Prize winning faculty and top ranking hospitals.The UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television enjoys easy access to Hollywood, boasting such notable alumni as Allison Anders, Nicholas Cage, Academy Award winner Francis Ford Coppola, Emmy winner Rob Reiner.

整个校园被不正式地分为南北两个校园,这两个校园都位于大学占地的东半部。北校园是原校园的中心,建筑以意大利文艺复兴时代建筑闻名,其中的包威尔图书馆成为好莱坞电影的最佳拍摄场景。这里是艺术、人文、社会科学、法律和经济等学科的中心。北校园的中心是橡树环绕的迪克森广场。这个广场曾在许多电影中出现。
