Leng Mei, a court painter in the Qing Dynasty, was a disciple of Jiao Bingzhen. He was good at drawing characters, in particular ladies.
Album of Paintings on Cultivating Moral Spirit, also known as Meritorious Deeds of Past Emperors and Ministers, is “teaching material of the elementary education” for princes. Such paintings were drawn in both the Ming and Qing dynasties. At the hand of court painters, they all become valuable artistic works. This album has a total of ten pages. All the content is stories of meritorious emperors and ministers in the past and each painting has illustration. They are all painted with some characteristics of the Western painting.
