Album of Lady Paintings(an excerpt), a Qing Dynasty(1644.1911) painting by Jiao Bingzhen, ink and color on silk, 30.2cm×21.3cm, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing.
Jiao Bingzhen, styling himself Erzheng, was a native of Jining, Shandong Province. As a court painter, he was good at drawing landscapes, characters, flowers and pavilions. His works absorbed the Western painting techniques. His major representative works include Album of Lady Paintings and Scenes of Farming and Weaving. Album of Lady Paintings has twelve pages, while here are just two of them. In the first painting, a lady is opening curtains, while another one is dancing in the pavilion happily. In the second painting, a lady takes a boat to tour the lake, appreciating water lily in the whole pond. Painted in fine brushwork and strong coloring, it looks delicate and magnificent.
