University of Chicago is a private
research university in Chicago,
Illinois, United states States and is often referred to as U of C, UC or UChicago. The university was
created and incorporated as a coeducational, secular institution in 1890 by the American Baptist Education Society and a donation from oil tycoon and philanthropist John D. Rockefeller. It emerged from a Baptist university of the same name that had closed in 1886 due to financial diff iculties. William Rainey Harper became the modern University"s first president on July 1, 1891, and the first classes were held on October 1, 1892.University of Chicago has impacted America"s higher education significantly, influencing curricula across the United States with its focus on expansive humanistic and scientific undergraduate learning.The university focuses on law, economics and scientific research.

System: The University consists of one college, various graduate programs and interdisciplinary committees organized into four divisions, six professional schools, and a school of continuing education. The University runs on a quarter system in which the academic year is divided into four terms: Summer (June-August), Autumn (September-December), Winter (January-March), and Spring (April-June). Full-time undergraduate students take three to four courses every quarter.
Feature: University of Chicago has a relatively small undergraduate population, allowing smaller class sizes than most major research universities.The undergraduate program emphasizes critical thinking and broad interdisciplinary exposure to encourage a full range of intellectual discovery. Graduate level students are prepared and trained for careers in academia and research. The school emphasizes a core curriculum in which students must take a large variety of classes in the humanities, social sciences, and hard sciences, regardless of major. Although the school is excellent across the board, University of Chicago is particularly renowned for its faculties of law and economics.
