Put the Glass Down

A lecturer was giving a lecture to his students on stress management. He raised a glass of water and asked the audience1, "How heavy do you think this glass of water is?"
The students' answers ranged from 20g to 500g.
"It does not matter on the absolute weight. It depends on how long you hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it is OK. If I hold it for an hour, I will have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you will have to call an ambulance2. It is the exact same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.
"If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, the burden becoming increasingly heavier.
"What you have to do is to put the glass down, rest for a while before holding it up again."
We have to put down the burden periodically3, so that we can be refreshed4 and are able to carry on.
So before you return home from work tonight, put the burden of work down. Don' t carry it back home. You can pick it up tomorrow.
Whatever burdens you are having now on your shoulders, let it down for a moment if you can.
Life is short, enjoy it!!
Don't Let Tommorrow Regret for Today

If I knew it would be the last time I' d see you fall asleep, I would tuck you in more tightly and "pray the Lord, your soul to keep".
If I knew it would be the last time I' d see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss you, and call you back for more.
If I knew it would be the last time I' d hear your voice lifted up in praise1, I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time I could spare an extra minute or so to stop and say "I love you," instead of assuming2 you would know I do.
If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day, I' m sure you' ll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there' s always tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chance to make everything right.
There will always be another day, to say our "I love you", and certainly there' s another chance to say our "Anything I can do?"
But, just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get, I' d like to say how much I love you, and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike, and today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.
So, if you' re waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For, if tomorrow never comes, you' ll surely regret the day...
That you didn' t take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss, and you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish.
So, hold your loved ones close today, and whisper3 in their ear, that you love them very much and you' ll always hold them dear.
Take time to say "I' m sorry" "Please forgive me" "thank you" or "its okay".
And if tomorrow never comes, you' ll have no regrets4 about today.
Everyday Is A Gift

My brother-in-law opened the bottom drawer of my sister' s bureau1 and lifted out a tissue-wrapped package. "This," he said, "is not a slip. This is lingerie." He discarded the tissue and handed me the slip. It was exquisite; silk, handmade and trimmed with a cobweb of lace. The price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still attached. "Jan bought this the first time we went to New York, at least 8 or 9 years ago. She never wore it. She was saving it for a special occasion. Well, I guess this is the occasion." He took the slip from me and put it on the bed with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician. His hands lingered on the soft material for a moment, then he slammed the drawer shut and turned to me. "Don' t ever save anything for a special occasion. Every day you' re alive is a special occasion."
I remembered those words through the funeral and the days that followed when I helped him and my niece attend to all the sad chores that follow an unexpected death. I thought about them on the plane returning to California from the Midwestern town where my sister' s family lives. I thought about all the things that she hadn' t seen or heard or done. I thought about the things that she had done without realizing that they were special.
