Table Manners:
As soon as you are seated, remove the napkin from your place setting, unfold it, and put it in your lap. Don't shake it open.At some very formal restaurants, the waiters may do this for the diners, but it is not inappropriate to place your own napkin in your lap, even when this is the case.
If you excuse yourself from the table, loosely unfold your napkin and place it to the left or right of your plate. Don not refold your napkin or wad it up on the table either.Never place your napkin on the chair.
At a private dinner party the meal begins when the host or hostess unfolds his or her napkin. This is your signal to do the same.Place your napkin on your lap, completely unfold if it is a small luncheon napkin or in half, lengthwise, if it is a large dinner napkin.Do not shake it open.
The napkin rests on the lap till the end of the meal.
The host will signal the end of the meal by placing his or her napkin on the table.
Once the meal is over, you too should place your napkin neatly on the table to the left of your dinner plate.

At a Western Restaurant
Jack:Is this your first time to eat at this kind of restaurant?
Joan:Yes. But I'm confused with so many items on the table.
Jack:They're quite different from those on a Chinese table.
Joan:Yes. This is napkin, the big plate I know. What about those knives?
Jack:The big one, right next to the dinner plate, is the meat knife, and the fork is on the other side. The middle one is for fowI and the one on the far right is the fish knife.
Joan:Can I use one for everything?
Jack:Yes, but they don't do that.
Joan:Is that acceptable?
Jack:No.
Joan:What about these glasses?
Jack:The biggest one is for water, called goblet. And the second biggest is for champagne;the two in size are for wine;and the smallest one is sherry glass. There are sometimes not so many glasses. It all depends on.
Joan:I know wine is popular in the West.
Jack:The spoon, you know is for soup. They don't drink from the bowI directly. Those are condiments.

1.Do you Iike to go outeating? 有次我问老美出去吃东西怎么说,他回答说一般出去吃饭,他们只说go to eat, go outeating或是eat out而不会说go to dinner, go for Iunch,也就是不需特地说中餐或是晚餐。 I just went out eating,而不会说I just went to dinner. 例如人家问你,“Where did you go?”
2.There is a Deliover there, do you Iike it?
3.What do you Iike to drink? What do you Iike to drink. Can I get you something to drink? 所以如果有人问你,“Come on, have a drink with us.”
4.Are you ready to order or just a minute? Are you ready to order or just a minute? Wait a few more minutes。 OK.I’ll be back.(好,那我等下再来。)
5.Do you want to separate check? We want to separate check。 Do you want to separate check?或是Do you want separate checks?
Taking a Seat
1.Good evening.Do you have a reservation?
2.How many in your party?
3.We can seat you very soon.
